How long have you been the Weddings and Events Manager at Spring Bay Mill, and what initially attracted you to this role?
I began my role as the Weddings and Events Manager at Spring Bay Mill in late August 2022. The allure of the location was the initial draw; the venue itself is breathtaking. The role aligned with my passion for creating memorable events and delivering high-end, unique experiences. Although I was new to the wedding industry, I was eager to extend my knowledge and skills. Additionally, Spring Bay Mill’s commitment to sustainability resonated with me, adding a deeper meaning to the role.
Can you describe the unique features and amenities that Spring Bay Mill offers as a wedding venue?
Spring Bay Mill boasts a range of unique features and hidden gems that make it the ideal wedding venue. Situated on Tasmania’s east coast, the Mill combines stunning coastal views with a rich industrial history, highlighted by the use of up-cycled and repurposed materials. We offer a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces to suit any preference or style.
Some of our amenities include:
Onsite accommodation for up to 115 guests, including Beach Shacks, Ridge Quarters pods and Glamping tents.
An onsite organic kitchen garden (OKG), where our chef collaborates with our horticulture team to design menus featuring seasonal produce.
Added experiences such as tree planting, site walks and horticulture talks.
A guest shuttle service in our electric ‘Voltswagon’ van, providing transportation for those who need assistance between accommodation, ceremony locations and reception areas.

How many different venues does Spring Bay Mill offer for weddings and what are the distinguishing characteristics of each one?
Spring Bay Mill offers four unique spaces for both ceremonies and receptions, as well as additional areas for rehearsal dinners, recovery brunches and after parties.
Windlass Deck (ceremony): Showcasing a breathtaking view over Maria Island, this space speaks for itself, needing minimal styling. It includes access to power for celebrants and musicians and an adjacent smaller deck perfect for a champagne tower, ice sculpture, or signing table.
Amphitheatre (ceremony): Up-cycled from the original jet slinger of the old wood chip mill into a large working sundial, this unique space requires little styling, with an open space perfect for a cocktail hour post-ceremony. It includes a container bar for catering and beverages.
Tin Shed & Tin Shed Deck (reception): Our most popular reception space, situated in the heart of the original woodchip mill. It accommodates 80 - 150 guests and can be styled to suit any theme.
Banksia Room (reception): A more traditional, sit-down reception space, often used before transitioning to the Tin Shed or Sawtooth Shed in the late evening.
Could you highlight some of the most popular wedding packages or options available at Spring Bay Mill?
Spring Bay Mill offers a range of wedding packages and inclusions. Our most popular package is the exclusive full package, which includes ceremony and reception venue hire, one night’s accommodation in four of our Eco Beach Shacks, asset hire (tables, chairs, linen, cutlery, crockery, and glassware), and standard AV. This package excludes catering and beverages. Other popular options include our 2 or 3-night all-inclusive packages for small groups or intimate elopements, which include a catered welcome dinner, accommodation for all guests (up to 25 people), ceremony and reception venue hire, use of required assets and AV and a recovery breakfast/brunch the following day.
What types of ceremonies and receptions does Spring Bay Mill cater to, and how do you accommodate different preferences and styles?
Spring Bay Mill is incredibly versatile, catering to a range of ceremonies and receptions. Whether it’s an intimate elopement on the Windlass Deck or an extravagant celebration in the Tin Shed, we have the flexibility to accommodate any vision. We offer the foundations for wedding spaces, allowing couples to style them according to their specific tastes and visions.
Can you share any memorable or unique wedding experiences that have taken place at Spring Bay Mill?
One of the most memorable weddings at Spring Bay Mill was Shane and Sacha’s Scottish-inspired celebration. The coastal backdrop, paired with a rainy day, evoked the Scottish Highlands, making the international guests feel right at home. The event featured tartan kilts, bagpipes and a ceilidh band, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
How does Spring Bay Mill support couples in the planning and coordination process leading up to their wedding day?
Spring Bay Mill provides extensive support throughout the planning and coordination process. As the Events Manager, I offer personalised assistance every step of the way, helping couples navigate the myriad of decisions involved in creating their dream celebration. From the initial site visit, I assist in selecting ideal spaces, coordinating vendor services, and managing timelines and run sheets. We also offer full catering and beverage services, with our onsite chef working closely with couples to ensure their requirements are met. My goal is to provide exceptional guidance, support and advice to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable experience.
